Survey: 100% of County Holds Strong Opinion on Bridge They Won't Drive

Margin of error: zero. 'Everyone here,' researchers explained. 'Everyone.'

VANCOUVER — A WSU Vancouver survey released Monday found that 100 percent of Clark County residents hold a strong opinion about the Interstate Bridge replacement, while 71 percent report avoiding the existing bridge “on principle,” “out of fear,” or “because of what it has become.”

Researchers described the response rate as unprecedented. Several residents completed the survey twice, unprompted, to be certain their position was recorded.

“The margin of error is zero,” the lead researcher said. “Everyone here. Everyone.”

Opinion was evenly divided among those demanding the new bridge open immediately, those demanding it never be built, and a third bloc that supports construction but refuses, in advance, to drive on the result.

Asked to reconcile the findings, the researcher gestured toward the river and did not elaborate.
