First drawn decades ago, the man has been carried forward through eleven renderings 'for continuity.'

VANCOUVER — The Interstate Bridge Replacement Program released an updated artist’s rendering Thursday depicting a gleaming span crossed by light rail, cyclists, and a jogging man who was in his thirties when first illustrated and has since retired from Clark Public Utilities.

Program staff confirmed the jogger has appeared in eleven consecutive renderings and is retained “for continuity.” In the newest image he has been given updated shoes.

“I recognize him. He coached my daughter’s soccer team,” said a Salmon Creek woman studying the rendering at a public open house. “His knees are gone now. He couldn’t do this.”

Officials described the image as “a shared regional vision,” clarifying that the vision remains unfunded and that the pictured weather is aspirational.

The program will accept public comment on the rendering through a portal scheduled to launch after the rendering is superseded.
