Camas Schedules Vote on Whether to Draft Plan It Would Then Vote On

By Marsh Pendleton · Sightings Desk ·

CAMAS — The Camas City Council will vote Aug. 17 on whether to draft a proposal to change the city’s form of government, a decision officials emphasized is not a vote on the change itself but a vote on whether to write it down.

The council-manager structure under consideration is the arrangement favored by larger cities, a category Camas residents have long maintained they basically occupy already, just cleaner.

“So this vote decides whether there’s a draft, and the draft gets its own vote later,” said a resident at a downtown coffee shop, diagramming the sequence on a napkin. She then requested a second napkin.

The recommendation came from an ad hoc citizens committee formed to study the question, which concluded that the question should next be written down and then, separately, voted on.

The committee itself was formed by a vote, a fact no one at city hall could be persuaded to find remarkable.
