Thread Demanding Countywide Fireworks Ban Reaches 300 Comments, Changes Zero Minds

By Marsh Pendleton · Sightings Desk ·

BRUSH PRAIRIE — The county’s annual fireworks thread resumed on schedule this week, reaching 300 comments and changing zero minds, after a letter in The Columbian renewed the call for a countywide ban.

Both factions deployed the standing nine arguments in the customary order, opening with veterans and pets and closing with freedom and, again, pets. A thread historian confirmed the exchange is word-for-word identical to the 2019 edition, except that one “there” has since been corrected.

“We’re finally having the real conversation,” wrote one participant at comment 241, the comment at which the real conversation is annually announced.

The county’s formal review this spring produced two hours of public comment, 30 minutes of discussion, and a motion for further study. This year’s Fourth also carried a one-year heat restriction on sales and discharge, which both sides cited as proof.

Moderators have pinned a reminder about civility. The thread will be archived by fall and reopened next June, verbatim.
