Neighbor Reports Neighbor's Fire Pit 11 Minutes After Ban Takes Effect
By Marsh Pendleton · Sightings Desk ·
HAZEL DELL — A neighborhood thread received its first fire-pit report at 12:12 a.m. Wednesday, 11 minutes after the countywide burn ban took effect.
The report was filed by a resident who wrote that she was “not trying to get anyone in trouble,” in a post reporting a neighbor.
The accused responded at 12:31 a.m. that the fire was in fact “decorative embers” predating the ban and therefore, in his term, grandfathered — a legal theory he offered without citation and defended across nine follow-up comments.
A third neighbor asked whether any of this affects the thread about the couch, which remains on Northeast 78th Street and remains its own thread.
Campfires are now legal only in improved fire pits at designated campgrounds. The yard in question is neither, both parties agreed, for different reasons.
The thread closed by thanking CRESA, which had not been contacted, was not involved, and did not respond.
