Five Raptors Return From All-Star Game to Team That Missed Them Differently

RIDGEFIELD — Five Ridgefield Raptors returned Thursday from the West Coast League All-Star Game, played Wednesday in Victoria, British Columbia, rejoining a club that entered the break on a nine-game losing streak.
The team sent five of itself to be honored while unable to win, a paradox the league office declined to explain and the organization has elected to treat as encouraging.
“The selections prove the talent is present,” said a member of the coaching staff. “Just not simultaneously.”
Teammates described the reunion as warm and the clubhouse as rested, the roster having spent the break not playing baseball, a stretch during which the team did not lose.
The five were named to the All-Star roster July 7, already mid-skid — a window the front office described as “a strong stretch for individual recognition.”
The second half begins, technically, with hope.
