Clark County Ethics Commission Approved; Council Reviewing Whether That Is Any of Your Business

By Marsh Pendleton · Sightings Desk ·

The Clark County Council voted 4-3 Tuesday to establish an Ethics Commission, then immediately referred the matter of public disclosure to a subcommittee tasked with determining whether residents have standing to know about it.

The commission, which will investigate potential misconduct by elected officials and senior staff, was described by supporters as “a long time coming.” The subcommittee reviewing disclosure is expected to meet in a room.

“We support ethics in principle,” said council member Gerald Fouts, reached by phone. “We just want to make sure we’re doing this the right way, which is something we’re still defining.”

A spokesperson for the county said the commission’s membership, jurisdiction, complaint process, and meeting schedule would be finalized once the subcommittee concludes its review of whether finalization is a public matter.

No timeline was provided. The subcommittee has not yet confirmed it exists.
