Cascade Locks Wastewater Rates to Rise 9 Percent in September; City Confirms Service Remains Mandatory
By Marsh Pendleton · Sightings Desk ·
Cascade Locks residents will see wastewater service rates increase approximately 9 percent beginning in September, city officials announced this week. At the same meeting, officials confirmed that participation in the wastewater system is not optional.
The rate increase, attributed to ongoing infrastructure and regional treatment costs, will add an estimated $4 to $6 to most monthly bills. City staff said the adjustment had been anticipated.
“We want people to understand what they’re paying for,” said a city representative, who did not elaborate on what had prompted the clarification about mandatory service.
One resident, reached near the Cascade Locks Marine Park, said the dual announcement had given her pause. “I wasn’t going to ask,” she said. “But now I’m curious who did.”
The city did not respond to a follow-up question asking whether anyone had formally requested an exemption.
